Intended for:

Overview

                                   HU

Human Performance Fundamentals

Safety, HU, Reliability, Value

Plant, contract, outage trades, field supervision

This course provides the fundamental knowledge of human and organizational behavior so the employee is better able to manage the key levers to minimize human error, and to reduce frequency and severity of incidents and events.

Human Performance –
Management and Supervision

Safety, HU, Reliability, Value

Leadership Team, management, supervision and field supervision (i.e., project managers, general foreman, foreman, etc.)

The focus of this course provides methods utilized by management and supervision to organize, plan, monitor, communicate and manage human performance, resulting in priorities that are understood by people throughout the organization to achieve this vision and strategy (i.e., minimizing the frequency and reducing the severity of human performance events).

Human Performance –

Engineers and Knowledge Workers

Safety, HU, Reliability, Value

Engineers, knowledge workers (i.e., EPC project managers, estimators, etc.)

Errors by knowledge workers and engineers can have a significant  adverse impact on safety and economic performance. The latency characteristic of their errors limits feedback, awareness and opportunities to prevent and catch them. This course focuses on the basic tools to assist the engineer and knowledge worker to avoid or identify latent human errors before they manifest in an event, maximizing resilience to events by means of more robust defenses, barriers, controls and safeguards.

                Observation and Coaching

Observation and Coaching I

Safety, HU, Reliability, Value

Management, supervision and field supervision

Once people know what you want, find out if you are getting what you want. Actual work practices, behaviors and working conditions can be seen first hand, enabling the supervisor to coach performance and promote improved performance. Monitoring facilitates early identification of problems and review of data can reveal areas in human performance that need management attention.

Observation and Coaching II

Safety, HU, Reliability, Value

Leadership Team, management,
supervision, and field supervision

Organizational values and safety culture can be assessed through observation of the quality of individual performance and supervision, adherence to standards and expectations, effectiveness of administrative processes, procedures and training, as well as the. Course emphasis is on paired observations, in-depth coaching and organizational effectiveness.

                    Accountability/ Risk

Accountability/ Accountability Agreements

Safety, HU, Reliability, Value

Employees of each individual department,
team, group, or trades group

This course establishes and/or advances accountability within the organization through the clarification and  understanding of the concept of personal and team accountability. The team/department will brainstorm a list of real and/or perceived accountability and victim behaviors that are occurring or have the potential to occur. The team members then create an accountability agreement that will both increase accountability, eliminate victim behaviors, and achieve the required responsibilities now and into the future.

                    Accountability/ Risk

Risk Perception

Safety, HU, Reliability, Value

Plant, contract, outage trades, field supervision

The concept of risk has been developed to help us to recognize, understand, and cope with danger and uncertainty. Our perception of risk, however, is not constant; it varies with both the individual and context of the situation. This course examines the factors that shape our perception and tolerance of risk. It explores the link between risk perception and safe/event free behavior. We will discuss the practical applications, and suggest both initiatives and  possible solutions the organization and individuals can adopt as we experience issues with risk perception.

                                Safety Culture

Nuclear Safety Culture and SCWE I

Safety, HU, Reliability, Value

Plant, contract, outage trades, field supervision

Examines the essential traits and attributes of a healthy nuclear safety culture and safety conscious work environment (SCWE) contributing to a pattern of thinking and behaving such that safety is emphasized over competing priorities resulting in collective commitment by leaders and individuals ensuring the protection of the plant, people and the environment.

Nuclear Safety Culture and SCWE II

Safety, HU, Reliability, Value

Leadership Team, management & supervision

Nuclear safety culture and safety conscious work environment is a leadership responsibility. Examines more in-depth comparisons between these traits and day-to-day policies and practices as a basis for improvement and the required monitoring and trending that serves as an indicator of the health of the safety culture and SCWE.
